What is the organizers' vision?

To organize an annual festival that will celebrate talent, creativity, vibrancy and diversity of Africa, for the audience committed to peace and appreciative of education, environment, technology and art. To inspire young people to be good leaders and change makers of the future. To develop an event that will be a significant contributor to the economic and social fabric of the region.

What is the theme of the festival?

"Nourishing Africa's Talent: from Aspiring Youth to Change Makers" is this year’s festival theme. The event aims at bringing international talent to Africa, and introducing Africa’s talent to the world. The festival will strive to have long-term positive impact on African youth via learning, mentorship and knowledge sharing. The Festival will bring together people who are passionate about their jobs, but also enthusiastic about spreading their knowledge and ideas by leading, mentoring and networking.

How precisely will the mentorship theme be implemented?

Besides specialists and opinion makers, 500 talented young people from around Kenya as well as other African counties will be sponsored to attend the festival, to network with individuals in their fields of interest, and find mentors in them.

How will the sponsored youth be selected?

Young people between 18 and 25 will be selected on need and merit basis from around Africa. Based on their interests and career goals, each young man and woman will be linked with a successful professional attending the festival. Our advisory team will tap into various educational, occupational, community and other networks of young people around the continent, finding participants who truly wish and deserve to attend.

How will the event contribute to the community?

The festival will have immediate and long-term impact through a mentoring process of 500 young Africans. Youth from around the world will benefit from a subsidized conference package and be able to take part in Voices of Gua, a program allowing them to document the festival and head a community beneficial project.

As an immediate contribution, ten percent of all gate collections from the festival will go to GUA Africa, a charity helping children in Kenya and Sudan obtain education.

Who are the Voices of GUA?

Voices of GUA will consist of a group of young people who will attend Gatwitch Festival every year and produce a short documentary about their journey and experiences. They will create a blog about the people they meet, things they see and how that experience inspires them to make a change in their communities.

Voices of GUA participants will learn from the exciting range of events, international speakers and musicians attending the festival. They will arrive from around the world, fundraising in their home counties beforehand, to cover their subsidized accommodation, transportation and festival fees. Any money they raise on top of their fees can go to their chosen task or a charity they believe in.
