Gatwitch Festival 2010, to take place in Nairobi December 2-4, 2010, will spearhead the series of annual initiatives by Gatwitch, an international record label and production company ran by Emmanuel Jal.

The festival will be the first of its kind in Africa, involving three days of music, speaking and exhibits of various art forms. Through live performances, speeches, short film screenings and a range of other activities, the event will celebrate art, technology, education and environment in Africa.

Individuals highly successful in their fields of work and willing to share their expertise in an interactive, engaging way, will speak at the festival. Local and international musicians will perform, conveying positive messages through their art. Filmmakers and photographers will display their best work; local organizations will utilize information booths; and vendors will sell food and hand craft. Displays of paintings, wood carvings, textiles, pottery and other visual art will surround the festival area.

The event will gather talent from around the world, people who are opinion makers in their fields of work, in addition to leading musicians. It will also tap into vast local talent, exposing African creativity, giftedness of the people and the enthusiasm for learning – large part of the audience will be youth, future leaders and change makers. For specialists in their industries the event will be a great networking opportunity; while for younger audience it will present a chance to get mentored and inspired.

Celebrating local talent in various fields, the festival will exemplify a way to make great strides into the future, while preserving traditions of the past. Local artists will share the stage with high-profile international acts, signifying the oneness of today’s global society.
